John Craig was a wright by trade and worked as a builder in Glasgow. He had a connection to Allan Dreghorn as they submitted a joint design for Glasgow University Library in 1732. This was not executed.
In 1735 Craig was appointed 'town's wright' or carpenter to the municipality of Glasgow, but for some reason he lost the post the year after.
Craig died before 15 January 1745 at which date his heirs were awarded a payment for his design for the library.
