Bio Notes: John Chisholme was born about 1780 in Aberdeen and was educated at the University of Aberdeen. He drew up a design for Union Street which was not adopted but was the first person to suggest a single span arch for the Union Bridge.

He moved to London where he was a pupil and assistant to John Rennie. In 1803 and 1808 he exhibited schemes for buildings in Scotland at the Royal Academy. In 1807 he joined Thomas Telford and was as Telford's assistant supervised the construction of the Court House in Carlisle.

He died suddenly of heart failure in Carlisle on 2 November 1808, aged 28.
