Bio Notes: George Cairncross was the son of Hugh Cairncross, mason and architect, Edinburgh. He provided the Lord Provost of Edinburgh with a copy Robert Adam's elevation of the west side of the University buildings. He also undertook measuring work at the Signet Library.

In 1811 he was bankrupt. However he continued to practice as an architect until his death in Edinburgh in January 1819. He was buried in the Greyfriars Cemetery.
