Name: Thomas Boyd
Designation:
Born: 1753

Bio Notes: Thomas Boyd was born about 1753. He practised as an architect and engineer in Dumfries. In January 1787 he had a child, according to Dumfries birth records. He was a competent provincial practitioner who designed rather old-fashioned Palladian structures. His bridge in Dumfries copied elements from the design of Blackfriars Bridge in London by Robert Mylne.

In 1810 it was reported in newspapers that Boyd had invented a machine for sweeping chimneys (even those which had a bend in them) from the bottom without the need to climbing to the top of the stacks.

He died on 23 September 1822 in Dumfries.
