Basic Biographical Details Name: | John C Borlach | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | | Bio Notes: | John C Borlach was James Gibbs' draughtsman for many years. He made a drawing of Kinross House which was later engraved and appeared in William Adam's 'Vitruvius Scoticus'. The American architect Charles Bullfinch owned 20 engraved plates which were to be published in a book entitled 'Designs of Architecture for Arches or Gates...by John C Borlach Architect'. Although Colvin states that a unique copy is held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, there is at least one other copy in a library elsewhere (Canadian Centre for Architecture). Two editions were published between 1755 amd 1776. The book is listed in John and Joseph Boydell's 'Catalogue of Plates' (1803). |
