Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Boog or Boag | Designation: | | Born: | c. 1737 | Died: | 1810 | Bio Notes: | James Boag was born in Perthshire. He trained as a carpenter but moved to Sutherland where he practised as a builder and architect, first in Golspie and later in Dornoch. His known work dates from the 1760s onwards. He designed many churches in the area.
Boog was known to have been a rough man who 'terrified all the school-boys, as well as every inmate of his own house, by the violence of his temper and his readiness to take offence'.
His buildings were in simple vernacular style.
He died in 1810. |
