Bio Notes: Andrew Barrie was born in Montrose probably about 1720. He was a mason and contractor. In the advice he was given by John Smeaton and John Adam regarding the construction of the North Esk Bridge in Montrose, they are described as 'architects' . He also designed various houses in Montrose.

It is not yet known when he died but his widow, Ann Low, died in Montrose aged 97 on 15 October 1817. Assuming that Barrie was approximately the same age as his wife, he must have been born about 1720.
