Bio Notes: William Dewar was born about 1860 in Monimail, Fife, the son of Thomas Dewar, gardener, and his wife Elizabeth B Dewar.

Dewar is recorded as an architect in Inverness in the 1881 Census but emigrated to South Africa about 1883-1884. On 1 January 1904 he joined the Scots emigre George William Smith in Port Elizabeth as Smith & Dewar and remained in Port Elizabeth for the rest of his career.

He died in South Africa on 25 February 1933 aged 72. He was married to Florence Lydia (nee Berry).
