By the early 1970s he had moved to Kirkcaldy. He had the post of senior architect in the Architect's Department of Glenrothes New Town Development Corporation from 1968 to 1987. By 1994 he had moved to the Department of Planning & Development, Borders Regional Council, Newtown St Boswells.
