Bio Notes: Robertson & Lister were smiths, engineers and millwrights who worked in Glasgow between about 1852 and 1855. Their business premises were the Victoria Works, Parliamentary Road. They manufactured various iron buildings or parts thereof. In 1853 they made the ironwork for the roofs of 'shipbuilding houses' designed by the engineers Bell & Miller. They also produced a house designed by Thomas Robertson, son of one of the partners, in 1852 for export to Australia and two iron churches from designs by Bell & Miller also for the Australian market.

However Alexander Lister was imprisoned in Glasgow in April 1855 as he went bankrupt both as a partner in the firm and as an individual. In that month he was served a 'cessio bonorum'. In June of that year his partner, Robertson, took over the firm, the name being changed to Robertson & Co. Although officially sequestrated in February 1856 Lister was eventually discharged 'without composition' in August 1862. Lister died aged 62 on 17 April 1881, at which time he was described as a 'civil engineer's manager'.
