Bio Notes: Colin Drummond Thorburn was born on 22 March 1930, the son of Colin Thorburn, fishmonger, and his wife, Mary McLachlan Drummond. He was elected a student member of the RIBA in 1951. He was based in Glasgow at this time. He studied at the School of Art in Glasgow and was elected ARIBA in 1954.

He died at his home in Northampton Drive on 19 August 2003. His wife, Margaret Gibson Wood, a bank clerkess, had predeceased him.
