Bio Notes: Alexander Green was born in Ochiltree, Ayrshire on 6 April 1894, the son of Alexander Green, school headmaster, and his wife Elizabeth Young. He was educated at Ayr Academy. He was articled to Allan Stevenson & Son of Ayr pronbably about 1911. His range of duties as an apprentice included the preparation of working drawings and the design of details for schools and housing as well as the preparation of feuing plans and other surveying work. During the First World War from 1915 Green served with the Highland Light Infantry on the Western Front in France and in Germany.

After demobilisation in 1919 he returned to Stevenson's office. The following year he moved to a post with Dunbartonshire Education Authority and worked successively under the Chief Education Architects A M Samson and Benjamin P Gibb. He was involved with planning new schools, reconstructing existing buildings and semi-permanent buildings as well as the maintenance of existing properties.

On 8 August 1929 he married Mabel Veronica Irwin, a hospital nurse who had been born in Cardross on 3 May 1900. They had two children, born in 1930 and 1936.

In 1930 Green became a draughtsman in the office of the County Architect Joseph Weekes. He had a wide range of duties: the preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, ½: and f.s. details, surveying and levelling sites of schools, houses, and other buildings. During World War II his work included surveying and plotting properties taken over by the Council, preparing plans and supervising the erection of temporary school buildings in blitzed areas, surveying and making reports on all war damaged properties in Old Kilpatrick area, Vale of Leven and Cardross. After the war he also prepared working drawings, Dean of Guild plans for semi-permanent school buildings, siting and sketch plans of new hutments, plans of siting and lay-out of school meals dining huts and cooking depots, and carried out surveying and levelling for new school sites and playing fields.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland on December 12, 1939 (certificate (No. 680) issued January 31, 1940). His address at the time was Loning Villa, Cardross, Glasgow.

After the Second World War Green Green may have become Deputy County Architect. His last project was Cardross Primary School which was opened in 1959. This was the fourteenth new school in the area, along with two schools which was rebuilt after they had been destroyed in the Blitz.

At some point during his career, though as yet it has not been established exactly when, he worked as in-house architect to the builder James Ritchie in Cardross and then moved to a similar position with J B Wright of Helensburgh.

Green also undertook some private commissions before and after retiring from the Council.

Outwith his work he was interested in art, music and natural history.

He died in Duntocher Hospital on 31 December 1971.
