Between school and University, 1975-76, he worked in the office of Moira Moira & Wann at their office in Tanfield, Canonmills, Edinburgh. Norrie Hunter, who was an Associate with the practice, had been instrumental in obtaining this post for him. The other Associate at this time was Maurice Pettigrew. Oberlander also spent his year out between Parts I and II of the architecture course with the same practice. By then the practice had moved to 1 Broughton Market, at the foot of Dublin Street.
