He was elected a student member fo the RIBA in 1948. He studied for the diploma in architecture in Aberdeen and for the diploma in town planning in Edinburgh. He was elected ARIBA in 1952 and ARIAS in 1955. After qualification he seems to have remained in Perth. However by 1970 he had moved to Edinburgh where he had a post with Midlothian County Planning Department. By 1979 his address is given as Edinburgh District Council Planning Department.
