Bio Notes: John Cromarty Arnott was born in Dornock in Dumfriesshire on 31 May 1921 (NAS births) (or 31 August 1921 according to RIAS obit), the son of John Clark Arnott, chief watchman on the railways and his wife Mary Davidson. He was a student member of the RIBA in 1948. He was living in Motherwell at this time. He was still a student in 1953 but was elected ARIBA in 1959. By 1970 he was the County Architect, Aberdeen. By 1979 he is listed as working for Grampian Regional Council.

He died in April 2016.
