The original practice Johnston & Seath had been set up by Harvey Johnston in partnership with Robert H Seath in 1955. They had met while working for L A Rolland.
They were joined by David Martin in 1960, and after Bob Seath's death in 1962, by Robert Nairn. Johnston himself retired in 1979 and R W Kidd joined under a new name, Johnston Seath & Partners. The practice amalgamated in 1992 with Alistair M Smith Architects, Edinburgh under the title of the Johnston Smith Partnership.
