Basic Biographical Details

Name: John Beattie Davidson
Designation:
Born: 2 October 1931
Died: 19 May 1984
Bio Notes: John Beattie Davidson was born in Lockerbie on 2 October 1931, the son of Charles Davidson, builder, and his wife Mary Agnes Beattie. He moved to Aberdeen in his early teens and attended Robert Gordon's School. He subsequently studied architecture at Robert Gordon's College and graduated in 1956.

After a year's professional practice in Dumfries he did his National Service with the topographical branch of the Royal Engineers.

In August 1958 he joined what was then known as Perth Town Council as an architect and became junior depute burgh architect and continued in that capacity until Local Government reorganisation in 1975. However his address when he joined the RIAS in 1964 was in Aberdeen suggesting he had a spell in time there and his post with Perth Town Council was not continuous. After local government reorganisation in 1975 he was promoted and became Director of Technical Services in Perth.

One of his outstanding achievements was designing the Bell's Sports Centre. He also supervised its construction. He also supervised the construction of many houses in the Letham scheme. He was particularly pleased with the pensioners' houses here.

He died suddenly at his daughter's home, Dunira, Gannochy Road, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland on 19 May 1984 survived by his wife, Jean Hunter Hastie Moffat and at least one daughter.
