Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Lister | Designation: | | Born: | 4 September 1904 | Died: | 23 February 1995 | Bio Notes: | James Lister was born on 4 September 1904, the son of Christina Lister. He was articled to Charles Campbell, Methil, from July 1919 to July 1924, while at the same time taking evening classes at Buckhaven High School. He remained as junior assistant with Campbell for a further two years. He moved to the practice of Gillespie & Scott in 1926 being promoted to senior assistant in charge of the Kirkcaldy branch office in 1932. In 1936 he moved to the post of Assistant Master of Works with Michael Nairn & Co. He remained with the company during the Second World War taking on the role of Civil Defence Officer from 1939 to 1945. In January 1946, still with the company, he became Architect and Master of Works. He remained with the firm which became Nairn-Williamson by 1965 until he retired in 1969.
He was elected LRIBA in 1956, proposed by Robert Forbes Hutchison, R G Cox and E L Gall, and ARIAS in 1964.
He died on 23 February 1995 at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, survived by his wife Christina Wilson Smith.
