Bio Notes: Alexander Hughes Robertson was born on 20 January 1929. He studied for the diploma in architecture at Durham. He was elected ARIBA in 1954.

from 1954-55 he worked as an assistant architect in the Sunderland Borough Architect's Department followed by a year in a similar post in the Durham County Architect's Department. From 1956-59 he in Singapore where he worked for the Singapore Improvement Trust on the design and construction of 3-and 7-storey flats. He also lectured part-time at the Polytechnic in Singapore. However he was retired because of political changes in the move towards independence.

In 1959 Robertson returned to England and joined Richard Turley & Associates with a view to becoming a partner. However he transferred to Littlewoods Mail Order stores as Assistant Chief Architect with five qualified architects to assist him. At this time Reginald Chatterton was chief architect. He was still with Littlewoods when he applied for Fellowship of the RIBA in 1968. His proposers were Reginald Chatterton, C Harold Woodley and G C Leopard. His job with Littlewoods carried considerable responsibility. Within a year he managed projects worth £1.5 to £2 million. His work required knowledge of construction, administration, contracts and programming and briefing of specialist consultants to ensure clients' requirements were met on time and on budget.

Robertson died in April 1996 at Birkenhead, Cheshire.
