Basic Biographical Details Name: | Gerald Francis Carroll | Designation: | | Born: | 1913 | Died: | 2 September 1980 | Bio Notes: | Gerald Francis Carroll was born on 7 October 1912, the son of Francis Robert Carroll, shipping agent and his wife, Florence Wardle.
Nothing is known of his early years and training but he may have worked for Walter Alison & Hutchison. He became a chief architectural assistant in the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works. He was elected ARIBA in 1957. He obtained a post as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Building at Heriot Watt University and remained part-time for at least two years until he was appointed full-time from September 1961.
He was elected FRIBA in 1968, proposed by Professor N C Sidwell (although for some reason his name had to be eliminated under a particular by-law, Robert Matthews and Robert Forbes Hutchison. He was promoted to senior lecturer.
Carroll died at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy on 2 September 1980, survived by his wife Margaret Dick Sneddon.
