Bio Notes: Alec Walter Jackson was born on 20 March 1920 and studies at the School of Architecture, Liverpool University from 1936 to 1940. In the latter year he travelled in Holland through the Lannen & Cubitts Prize. He sat the external RIBA exaam in December 1942 and was admitted both ARIBA and AMTPI in the following year. His proposers for his acceptance as ARIBA on 13 April 1943 were Lionel B Budden, J F (or Herbert?) Thearle and Gordon W Jackson, who may have been a relative. At some point his studies or early career was interrupted by war service, but in 1947 he obtained the post of senior planning assistant at Minoprio & Spencely, working on the masterplan for Crawley New Town. He was a Victory Prize finallist in 1948, and in the same year he moved to the office of J Stanley Beard, Bennet & Wilkins as senior architectural assistant, undertaking industrial work.

In 1953 he was taken into partnership in the firm of Jackson, Greenen & Down. The practice specialised in commercial buildings, offices, shops, transport depots and Local Authority schools.

Jackson was elected FRIBA on 6 December 1967, proposed by K P Dexter, B G Morgan and P A Dunn (or Dan?). He died in Poole in Dorset in December 2006.
