He became a student member of the RIBA in 1931 after exemption from the intermediate exam, and passed the professional practice exam in 1934. He was admitted ARIBA on 10 February 1942, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, James Brown Nicol and A G R Mackenzie. By that time he was working for in Middlesex County Architect's Department, although his nomination papers also give a home address of 2 Viewfield Avenue, Aberdeen.
