Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Wilson Mackintosh | Designation: | | Born: | 24 January 1916 | Died: | October 1997 | Bio Notes: | James Wilson Mackintosh was born in Inverness on 24 January 1916. He attended the Royal Academy, Inverness from 1930 to 1932 and then joined the practice of 'D A Fowler & T Munro' as a pupil, subsequently becoming a junior assistant. He left Scotland in 1936, working first as assistant to Clemence & Co of Guildford, then as senior assistant to W H Byrne of Dublin and then in the same role for Martin E Ward of Birmingham. In 1939 he was appointed staff architect for Rotol Ltd, Gloucester, and two years later he became Assistant Emergency Works Officer for the Ministry of Works in Bristol and Gloucester.
He set up his own practice at 18 Orchard Street, Bristol in 1943. He was still at that address when he was admitted LRIBA on 11 February 1947, his proposers being C F W Dening, W H Watkins and Arthur J Knott.
By 1981 he had a post in the Property Services Agency in Hounslow.
By the time he retired and resigned his RIBA membership in January 1981, he was living in Surrey.
