Bio Notes: David Hopps was born about 1952 and grew up in Spennymoor in County Durham. He studied at Canterbury School of Architecture from 1982-1985, graduating BA in the latter year and completing RIBA Part I. He transferred to the University of Strathclyde in 1987, graduated BArch in 1989 and completed RIBA Part II in that year. It is not clear where he worked from 1989 until 1997 when he passed his professional practice exam. The year after he took a post with Thomas Ford & Partners in London, moving to Purcell Miller & Tritton in 1999 and to Christopher Smallwood in 2001. In 2003 he moved to work for Argyll & Bute Council and was elected ARIAS that year. In 2005 he moved to Edinburgh to work for Norman Gray & Partners. He worked mainly on the conservation of historic buildings and was involved with the refurbishment of Charlotte Square. He also designed some new housing.

Hopps committed suicide on 14 June 2007.
