Basic Biographical Details | Name: | George Drummond Rankin | | Designation: | Architect | | Born: | 5 May 1937 | | Died: | 13 March 2006 | | Bio Notes: | George Drummond Rankin was born on 5 May 1937, the son of George Drummind Rankin, elecrtrician, and his wife Christine Dow Cunningham. He studied part-time at Edinburgh College of Art from 1955 and completed the course in six years. During this period he worked in the office of John Denoon Carnegie. He was awarded his diploma in architecture and elected ARIBA in 1961. In that year he moved to London to a post with the LCC and remained there until 1965. He returned to Scotland and worked for Lanark County Council Council until 1973 and moved therafter to Glasgow City Council remaining there until 1979. During this time he studied for a diploma in town planning at the University of Strathclyde. He was elected ARIAS in 1961 and was a member of the Edinburgh Chapter. He retired at the age of 65 in 2002.
