Bio Notes: Andrew Alexander McCrory was born on 9 June 1937. He studied for the diploma in architecture at Glasgow College of Art and was elected ARIBA in 1963. He worked as an assistant with Wylie Shanks & Partners from 1961-63 and with I M Pei in New York from 1965-67. After his return to the United Kingdom he worked with the Building Design Partnership, becoming senior partner in 1976 and office chairman in 1986. Three years later he was promoted to the post of architectural chairman for the BDP practice. He was elected Fellow of the RIAS in 1993. At that time he was described as spending 'a considerable time weighing up the options for a scheme until he has a clear vision of the best solution' and was 'willing to listen to the views of others'.

Outwith his professional life he was s keen sailor and lover of nature.

He died suddenly on 1 January 2001, survived by his wife Jenny and their son David.
