Bio Notes: Richard Grieve Beattie was born on 22 May 1921, the son of David Beattie, borough survey's clerk, and his wife Jessie Basnett. He studied for the diploma in architecture in Liverpool. He worked for the County Architect in Edinburgh (City Chambers) and later for Lothian Regional Council, Department of Architectural Services. He was elected ARIBA in 1953 and ARIAS in 1970.

He had retired by 1983. He died on 15 April 1990, survived by his wife Sheila Mary Robinson.
