Bio Notes: Robert Adam Shaw was born on 21 March 1921, the son of William Frame Shaw, engineering department manager, and his wife Marjorie Smith Adam. He was a student member of the RIBA from 1948. He studied at the School of Art, Glasgow and was elected ARIBA in 1950. He had joined the practice of William Baillie & Son by 1970. He was still working with the practice in 1987.

Shaw died on 16 July 1992 at his home in Newton Mearns. He was survived by his wife, Jean Scott Haddow.
