Basic Biographical Details Name: | James ('Jim') Andrew Halliday | Designation: | | Born: | 5 August 1937 | Died: | 29 April 2001 | Bio Notes: | James Andrew Halliday (known as Jim) was born on 5 August 1937 in Cambuslang, the son of James Gordon Halliday, pumphouse attendant, and his wife Sarah Dixon Lithgow. He was elected ARIBA in 1965. He began his career working for Cumbernauld Development Corporation in the 1960s. He initially lived in the Abronhill area but in the 1970s he moved to the Greenfaulds area of the town where he bought a small plot of land and designed and built his own house.
In 1969 he joined the R Seifert Co-Partnership in Glasgow. He remained with this practice for 11 years. He became the right hand man of the Glasgow partner, Len Watson, and was made an associate. At the beginning of the 1980s he had an opportunity to go into partnership in a practice in Evanton, Ross-shire. He later went into practice on his own account and set up business in Alness where he worked for many years.
Halliday was a man with a big personality and enormous energy. Even a triple bypass operation in the early 1990s did not slow him down and life was soon resumed with his usual gusto. He lived life to the full in all respects. He enjoyed his food and was fond of music, particularly jazz and the operas of Gilbert & Sullivan. He was chairman of his local community council for a number of years and became a popular figure in Easter Ross.
Halliday died at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness on 29 April 2001. He was survived by his wife, Grace Renfrew Crichton, an administrator, and his three daughters.
