He was educated at Airdrie Academy and began working in Airdrie Burgh Architects’ Department in 1971. He studied architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture from the following year and continued until he completed the course in 1978. He was elected ARIBA in 1980.
In 1979 he joined the Department of Architecture and Related Services, Glasgow District Council. Two years later he moved to work for Valtos Architects in Oman as project architect in the Salalah branch office moving to the main office in Muscat in 1983. In 1985 he returned to the United Kingdom and joined Thomson McCrea & Sanders. Two years later he transferred back to Strathclyde Regional Council, Department of Architecture and Related Services and in 1989 became Area Architect with responsibility for the North of the City.
As a person he was energetic enthusiastic and committed. He was always brimming with ideas and was prepared to work through the night to meet a deadline.
He died suddenly aged 41 on 16 October 1995, survived by his wife Teresa and his daughters Gail and Nicky.
