Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Black | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | | Bio Notes: | William Black was born in 1841. He practised from Gifford, East Lothian, and is believed to have been factor of East Pencaitland or Tyneholm estate.
In 1887, at the age of 46, Black married the owner of the estate, Elisabeth Mackie, then aged 72 and the widow of Arthur Trevelyan, 2nd son of Sir John Trevelyan of Wallington, Northumberland. He had died in 1880. In the marriage documents Black is described as 'architect' rather than factor.
Elizabeth died in 1891. The marriage had run into difficulty prior to that date.
The only work by Black so far identified is an addition of 1884 to Woodhall on the Tyneholm estate. |
