Bio Notes: Michael David Simister was born in Lancaster on 4 February 1947, the son of Fred Simister, the sales representative of a biscuit manufacturer, and his wife Hilda Ellen Hodgson. His second wife was also an architect, Carol Anne Bulloch. He qualified as a registered architect in 1973.

From 1973-75 he worked with Irvine Development Corporation and from the latter year until 1977 he was Year Master at the Mackintosh School of Architecture. From 1977 he was a partner in Simister, Monaghan, McKinney, MacDonald who operated in Glasgow until 1997. Thereafter he worked as Director of Stephenson Bell Architects but in in 2004 becamce creative director of AFL Architects. Since 2007 he has worked in a similar role at Aedas. He is responsible for guiding the design process of project-specific tasks across all sectors in order to maximise design quality. He runs Design Reviews, Design Workshops and co-hosts Aedas Global Design Summits.
