Bio Notes: William Knight was born on 4 April 1919. He studied for the diploma in architecture at Liverpool University, graduating in 1948. He was admitted ARIBA on 1 January 1949 and that same year went on a 'work tour' in the United States. Subsequently he made further tours to Germany in 1952 and 1962 and to Sweden in 1958. From 1950 he was assistant to Robert Robertson Reid Young and from 1952 a partner in the practice Stephenson Young & Partners.

He was elected FRIBA in 1963, his proposers being Robert Robertson Reid Young, Ronald Bradbury and George Arthur Hall. Subsequently he formed a partnership with his contemporary at Liverpool, Norman Frederick Kingham.

He died on 1 April 1984 in Cheshire.
