He was elected ARIBA in 1951. he started his career with Perth County Architect's Department, later moving to Perth Town Council. He was Dunfermline Deputy Burgh Architect and Planning Officer [senior assistant architect?] until 1961. [There is a conflict of information with Prospect stating he was with Perth Town Council and extract from the Builder stating he was with Dunfermline Town Council]. On 30 October 1961 he took up post as Inverness Burgh Architect in which post he remained until at least 1970. He retired from this post in 1975 and began business on his own account as the Link Consultancy in Inverness. Jack took an active role in the affairs of the Inverness Chapter of the RIAS.
