Name: Archibald Lachlan Brown
Designation:
Born: 4 August 1932
Died: 12 December 2012
Bio Notes: Archibald Lachlan Brown was born on 4 August 1932 in Clydebank and raised there. He was educated at Clydebank High School where he excelled in both academic subjects and in sport. He studied architecture at Glasgow School of Art and during this period he worked in the office of Frank Burnet & Boston. He was admitted ARIBA in 1964 and ARIAS.

In 1967 he joined the practice of William Murdoch Rigg McMenan in Glasgow and soon became a partner, the practice name in due course becoming McMenan & Brown. He seems to have been sole partner latterly before the practice was restructured in 1989 and became ALB Partnership. Brown remained as senior partner until his retirement in 1995.

The practice tackled a wide range of work including social housing and housing for the disabled, government and health board buildings, church design and restoration (he received a Saltire Award for the restoration of Advocates Close in Edinburgh in 1985) and a variety of commercial work.

Outwith his professional life he was a member of Lodge Bearsden, Glasgow Killermont Golf Club and Ye Cronies. After retirement he joined Killearn Probus Club, and the bowling club and Burns Club in Blanefield. He was also an accomplished jazz pianist.

He died on 12 December 2012, predeceased by his wife Marie but survived by his two children and three grandchildren.
