Bio Notes: Harry Powls was born on 25 February 1923. From September 1940 to February 1941 and from September 1946 to June 1950 he studied at Hull School of Art sitting the final exam in 1952. The interruption in his studies was presumably because of war service. He was elected ARIBA in 1952, proposed by C W C Needham, Kenneth Ward and Charles R Sharp.

From 1950-51 he was an assistant in the practice of Arthur Lazenby in Hull, moving to the practice of Needham Thorp & White, architects and town planners, York in 1952. In 1956 he moved to the practice of J G K Poulson in Ropergate, Pontefract and the following year, 1957, he returned to to Needham Thorp & White. as senior assistant and latterly partner. He soent a year with J G L Poulson as chief architect in the School Department and the following year he moved to Gillinson Barnett & Partners as associate becoming a full partner in June 1966 where he remained until at least the 1970s. The main office of Gillinson Barnett & Partners was in Leeds but in 1969 there was also an office in Albyn Place, Edinburgh.

Powls was elected FRIBA in 1969, proposed by Clifford Barnett, Lawrence N Cordingley and Alan Theaker.

He died in Hull, Yorkshire in March 1986.
