Bio Notes: Robert George Smart studied for the degree of BArch at Cornell University and for the diploma in architecture at Edinburgh College of Art followed by a diploma in town panning. He was elected ARIAS and ARIBA in 1960. In 1960 he was 'Highly Commended' for his post-diploma work. In the early 1970s he was a lecturer in the Department of Planning, Edinburgh College of Art. He later worked in conjunction with Lawrie Nisbet.

In 1981 Robert George Smart was a partner in the practice The Edinburgh Consortium.
