Bio Notes: Alexander MacKenzie (or McKenzie) was born on 16 April 1839 at Fearn, Ross-shire, the son of John McKenzie, mason, and his wife Margaret McKenzie. Margaret McKenzie's father was also a mason and worked in the Invergordon area. Alexander MacKenzie (or McKenzie) practised in Tain as a Master Mason and died of Phthisis on 2 May 1873 at Petley Street. His death was reported by James Maitland, architect, who was a neighbour. His brother Hugh was a carpenter and builder and took over some of the work when Alexander died.
