Bio Notes: In 1949. James Cubitt bought a house big enough to include business premises in Gloucester Place, London. Here he was joined in partnership by Buzas, Atkinson and Maitland, who had all been students at the Architectural Association. By 1975 the name of the practice was JAmes Cubit, Fello Atkinson & Partners.

JAMES WILLIAM ARCHIBALD CUBITT (1914-1983) BA (Oxon) Dip AA, Associate of the RIBA Born in Melbourne Australia. Educated at Harrow, Brasenose College Oxford (1932-1935) and at the Architectural Association School of Architecture London where he received his Diploma in 1940. Awarded MBE in 1944. One time studio instructor at Kingston School of Art. Private practice from 1946 until the formation of James Cubitt and Partners in 1949. Partner in the firm of James Cubitt, Scott, and Partners, Gold Coast (1952).

STEFAN BUZAS.(1915-2008) DipAA, Associate of the RIBA Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists.
Born Tapolca, Hungary 1915, the son of a Jewish lawyer. He studied at the Technische Hochschule faculty of architecture, in Vienna, perhaps influenced by his uncle, the architect Mano Lessner. However, in the spring of 1938, as the political situation deteriorated, Stefan Buzas was sent to Britain where he enrolled at the Architectural Association gaining his Diploma in 1940. One time studio instructor at Kingston School of Art and the Architectural Association School of Architecture. From 1949 to1965 a partner in the firm of James Cubitt and Partners. Partner in the firm of James Cubitt, Scott, and Partners, Gold Coast (1952).

FELLO ATKINSON Dip AA, Fellow of the RIBA. Born 1919 Lowestoft Suffolk. Educated at St George’s School, Harpenden, and at the Architectural Association School of Architecture London from 1936. He had not completed his training when war broke out. After five years with the RNVR mostly of Atlantic patrol duties, he returned to the AA, qualifying as an architect in 1947. One time lecturer at Kingston School of Art, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Year master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture London. From 1949 a partner in the firm of James Cubitt and Partners. Partner in the firm of James Cubitt, Scott, and Partners, Gold Coast (1952).
About 1947 - member of the architectural staff of East Kilbride new town.

RICHARD MACLEOD (DICK) MAITLAND (1917-1969) DipAA Associate of the RIBA. Born 1917 at St Andrews, Scotland. Trained at the Architectural Association in London where he received a diploma. From 1949 a partner in the firm of James Cubitt and Partners, London and in the firm of James Cubitt, Scott, and Partners, Gold Coast. (Ghana). Dick Maitland resigned from the practice in 1959.
