After working with Patrick Abercrombie on plans for Plymouth and Hull, he was appointed Town Planning Officer for Edinburgh (on a temporary basis) at an annual inclusive salary of £1,000 in July 1945. At the same time Patrick Abercrombie was appointed Planning Consultant for the Edinburgh City Plan at a fee of £2,000. The final proposals were published as 'Civic Survey Plan For The City And Royal Burgh Of Edinburgh' on 1 January 1949.
