Basic Biographical Details Name: | Jack Fulton | Designation: | | Born: | 5 June 1943 | Died: | 2 November 2015 | Bio Notes: | John McGee (Jack) Fulton was born in Glasgow on 5 June 1943. He studied architecture at Edinburgh College of Art from 1967. He also qualified in town planning with the degree of MSc from Heriot Watt University.
His first job was with Dundee City Council where he was in charge of a youth employment scheme on the renovation of Mains Castle. He set up Arkos Design Partnership with Philip Hainsworth in the early 1980s and in 1985 formed his own practice, Jack Fulton Associates. It was based in Dundee. He was elected ARIBA in 1986.
Jack Fulton Associates undertook a wide range of work, including many tenement restorations, residential schemes and alterations to private houses. The firm specialized in funeral parlours and mortuary facilities. The practice won a number of Civic Trust and RIBA awards.
Fulton served on the RIAS Education Committee and was Scottish representative on ARCUK and from 1991-1993 was president of the Dundee Institute of Architects.
Fulton was passionately interested in sustainable urban forms and the living condition of some of the world's poorer people and his idea for floating urban structures was patented in 2011. As a person he was always opinionated but witty and good company. Outwith his profession he liked travel (he was especially fond of Paris), sailing and music.
