Bio Notes: James Barrie was born on 10 October 1931, the son of Thomas Barrie, colliery engineman and his wife Jean Grant. He was elected ARIBA in 1959 and ARIAS in 1964.

He worked for East Kilbride Development Corporation from at least 1963 and was Chief Architect and Planning Officer there from 1983-1994. He retired in the latter year aged 63.

James Barrie died of congestive cardiac failure at Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride on 6 September 2004. He was survived by his wife, Robina Shannon Graham, who had worked in the office of a concrete manufacturer, and by at least one son.
