Bio Notes: Allan Aitken was born on 19 January 1916, the son of Robert Aitken, civil servant, and his wife, Margaret Clinkscale Allan. He studied for the Diploma in Architecture at Aberdeen and was admitted ARIBA in 1948. He subsequently took a post with the Ministry of Works in Edinburgh. He remained with them until at least 1979 when his office was in Argyle House.

He died on 27 September 2003 at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. He was survived by his second wife, Mary Judy Pennett, a retired personal assistant.
