Basic Biographical Details Name: | Ian Thomas Brand | Designation: | | Born: | 5 August 1926 | Died: | 16 May 2003 | Bio Notes: | Ian Thomas Brand was born on 5 August 1926, the son of John Selby Archibald Brand, shipwright, and his wife, Marion Henderson Scott. He studied for the diploma from 1942-48 at the School of Architecture in Edinburgh and was admitted ARIBA in 1948.
He took a job as assistant with the SERHB in 1949 and appears to have moved from Corstorphine that year, moving to Warrender Park Road in 1950. From 1951-58 he was employed as an assistant with the National Coal Board. From 1958 to 1967 he was a principal with Stanley Poole Brand Associates had an addresss of 60 North Castle Street, Edinburgh. He was elected ARIAS in 1969, proposed by Jack Coia, Donald Cattanach and A Grant Walmesley. Although he does not appear in the 1979 Directory, he is listed as sole partner of the practice in 1981.
