Bio Notes: John Gray was born about 1925. He was educated at Allan Glen's School in Glasgow and studied architecture at The Royal Technical College. He served as a commissioned officer iwith the Royal Engineers from 1940-46. He was admitted ARIBA and ARIAS in 1948. In 1950 he appears to have been living and perhaps working at 43 Aberfeldy Street in Glasgow. In 1951 he moved to East Kilbride where he was Senior Architect with East Kilbride Development Corporation and spcialised in housing schools and industrial work. He remained there until 1960.

From 1960-62 he had a post with Lanarkshire County Council but in the latter year became Chief Architect with Weir Construction and was responsible for a large technical staff. With Weir he specialised in timber-frame housing construction systems, traditional and system-built housing, schools and commercial and industrial buildings. He joined Haswell Smith as partner in 1974 and was in direct control of the Strathclyde office.

Outwith his work Gray's interests included music drama and golf. He was also a keen member of the Rotarian Club.

After retirement he moved to Nairn.
