He studied at the School of Architecture Glasgow College of Art. He was admitted ARIBA in 1948. By 1950 he had taken a post in the Planning Department in Dumfries. By 1964 he was practising as Robert Allan & Partners in Ayr, with a further office in Paisley. The practice was still in business in 1987. His partner at that date was John Graham Bissett, BArch, who cannot as yet be traced.
