Bio Notes: The practice was established in 1964 by David Hutchison, Graham Locke and Tony Monk in Richmond, Surrey when the three won the competition for Paisley Civic Centre. In the same year they opened an office in Paisley, and in 1976 Duncan Adam was taken into partnership. They moved in 1986 to Ingram Street in Glasgow and in 1991 to Riverside House, 200 Clyde Street, Glasgow. In the early 1980s, Leslie Welch and Christopher Liddle joined the practice as partners. In 1988 the name of the firm became HLM Design, of which the Scottish part is HLM Architects.

Besides the jobs listed below in the later 1970s the practice undertook fire upgrading works in buildings for Renfrew District for Strathclyde Regional Council.
