Basic Biographical Details Name: | Matheson Mackenzie & Partner (later Matheson Mackenzie & Partners) | Designation: | | Born: | 1974 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | In 1974 Hugh Macdonald Ross were taken into partnership by Matheson & Mackenzie, the name changing to Matheson, Mackenzie & Partner.
Donald Matheson who founded the firm was born in 1878 and articled to Ross & Macbeth of Inverness, c.1893 to 1898, and presumably remained as an assistant. In 1906 he emigrated to Durban, but returned in 1908 to commence independent practice in Strathpeffer, moving office to Dingwall in 1910. He was subsequently appointed County Architect for Ross and Cromarty but continued his private practice. He was admitted LRIBA in 1925.
Matheson died in October 1934. The practice was carried on by his sons Donald and Huisdean who retained the firm title of Donald Matheson & Sons. The practised continued under the same name until 1956 when it became Matheson & Mackenzie when Ian Mackenzie was taken into partnership.
Ian Alexander Mackenzie appears to have been the son of M Mackenzie and was articled to or an assistant to John Grant Chisholm in about 1939. In 1956 he was assumed into partnership by the Matheson brothers. Hugh Macdonald Ross joined the practice in 1974 (though Bailey gives this date, Ross appears in RIBA directories as Hugh Macdonald Ross Partners in 1979). It is possible that he ran his own practice consurrently with being a partner in the Matheson practice.
In 1976 Ian Rosie was taken into partnership. The practice name was Matheson Mackenzie & Partners in 1980. Matheson had retired by 1980, the practice then being run by Ian Mackenzie, Hugh Ross and Ian Rosie. He remained there until 1982 when the practice name changed to Matheson Mackenzie & Ross. It operated under this title until at least 1996. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 2, Achany Road, Dingwall, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland | Business | 1970 | After 1980 | | | Inver Lodge, Ardival, Strathpeffer, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland | Business | 1987 * | | | | Royal Bank Buildings, High Street, Dingwall, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland | Business | 1990s | | |
