Bio Notes: William Vernon Monaghan was born in Glasgow in 1947, the son of Henry Vernon Monaghan, mercantile clerk, and his wife Catherine McAulay Dick. He studied for the degree of BArch at the University of Strathclyde and was elected ARIBA in 1973. He was an employee of Irvine Development Corporation in the late 1960s and 1970s. He was then appointed architect to the Kirkwall office of Sinclair Macdonald & Son. In 1979 he was working in the Glasgow office of the Manchester-based practice of Michael Hyde & Partners. By 1984 he had formed his own practice which operated from the former Michael Hyde office in Bath Street.
