Basic Biographical Details

Name: Archibald Ernest Bennett
Designation:
Born: 12 April 1913
Died: July 1989
Bio Notes: Archibald Ernest Bennett was born on 12 April 1913 and studied full-time at Aberdeen School of Architecture from 1931 to 1933, subsequently assisting in the office of George Bennett Mitchell & Son whilst attending evening classes. He obtained his diploma in June 1936 and was admitted ARIBA on 5 December 1938, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, George Angus Mitchell and Alexander Thomson Scott. At that time he was working for the London Passenger Transport Board in London.

Bennett later worked as Staff Architect to Newcastle University Hospitals from 1963 to 1974, resigning in the latter year to take up a partnership, but harsh economic conditions caused the business to fail and he subsequently took temporary posts including one in Blyth Valley Council Architect's Department in 1977. He set up practice on his own account in Newcastle. His frequently difficult financial circumstances caused his RIBA membership to be terminated several times due to non-payment of fees; the final termination of his membership was in 1981.

He died in July 1989 in Newcastle.
