Bennett later worked as Staff Architect to Newcastle University Hospitals from 1963 to 1974, resigning in the latter year to take up a partnership, but harsh economic conditions caused the business to fail and he subsequently took temporary posts including one in Blyth Valley Council Architect's Department in 1977.
